On the 5th anniversary of 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals, Fundación ONCE together with the European Disability Forum have developed "The 2030 Agenda, SDGs and Disability" paper to remind that efforts are needed to ensure a sustainable and inclusive society that leaves no one behind.

The paper describes the adoption of the 2030 Agenda and SDGs as a key milestone in the development of human rights since inclusion of people with disabilities is at its heart with the request and commitment not to leave anyone behind and to reach the furthest behind first. Also, five of the seventeen SDGs specifically refer to people with disabilities. The main message shared in the paper is that since goals and targets are based on equality and non-discrimination, no goal can be achieved if a part of the population, such as people with disabilities, is forgotten.

It also states that the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs bring an excellent opportunity to work together towards the implementation of a common disability inclusion agenda and to accelerate the implementation of the CRPD. It can also be used by organisations as a guiding instrument to define their strategies and measure the impact of their disability-related activity. Moreover, due to the relevance of the 2030 Agenda both at a European level and internationally, linking an organisation´s disability-related activity to the SDGs can also be a way to reinforce the value of the contribution.

The document presents an analysis of the current situation of people with disabilities (in terms of employment, education, health…) through indicators and data linked to SDGs, showing that efforts need to be done to ensure people with disabilities are not left behind.

Finally it calls to stakeholders to ensure people with disabilities are not left behind in a 2030 inclusive and sustainable future and provides key recommendations, such as the need to disaggregate indicators by disability in order to ensure an effective follow-up and also reveal which areas of discrimination need to be addressed.
